3 Ways to Get Out of Your Head, Jump out of that Space, and Propel Yourself Forward again

There are days when you feel like you are pedaling in place… getting no traction and the four walls closing in and swallowing you up. Ugh! I know it too well in so many ways. I can drag. Get indecisive – flat out stall.

Tired of zoom calls? The interruptions (or not enough of them?). Your battery may feel like its draining. Your inspiration is waning. Don’t get discouraged. Here are three easy to do go-tos to get you up, out of your head and spreading your wings again:

  1. Create a vacation office. Whereas places may be limited to go to, for now, cycle in an alternate space to work from and change up your perspective (my writing always gets fast-tracked when I take my beverage and sit at an outdoor cafe) Try the library, someone else’s house, inside or out. The change of scenery helps us refocus and shift our perspective, and we feel less tied down. Just the action of temporarily transplanting your workspace sparks mental and physical energy.
  2. Take a Walk. A Drive. Or a Bike Ride. And take your favorite music with you. And crank it up. You might even want to pre-create a playlist to pump you up and put pep in your step. If you aren’t the music type, ok, listen to a podcast. However… it should be about something that inspires you NOT related to your work or responsibilities. The idea is to jump out of all that information and THINK that is running laps in your head. Combined with the physical activity, you’ll be revving up your engine again, and you’ll be back on track.
  3. Make a Date – with your family, your hobby, something you have been curious to explore. Schedule a playdate with your kids. A class you have wanted to learn (not work-related). Start a new relaxing interest/project… or get back to the one that has been waiting for you to resume. MAKE the TIME to feed what makes you happy.

Borrow one. Just try it. A simple little shift can make a big change and get your day, your outlook, and your work more inspired.
